WEST VALLEY CITY — Police are searching for a red Hyundai Sonata or similar style vehicle believed to be connected with a shooting that left four people injured outside of a Walmart Sunday night.
Police responded to a report of a shooting at 3180 S. 5600 West at approximately 8:10 p.m. The red Sonata was traveling on 5600 West and fired multiple rounds at people outside of a parked RV carrying members of the California rap group Mr. Criminal in the parking lot, West Valley police spokeswoman Roxanne Vainuku said in a statement.
Members of the group were outside the vehicle speaking with people, including a 14-year-old girl, when the shots were fired. The teen and three members of the rap group were struck by bullets.
All four people were transported to a hospital. The teenager, who was shot in the hip, and a 23-year-old man in the group, who was shot in the buttocks, have since been released from the hospital, Vainuku said.
A 36-year-old man, shot in the leg, and a 22-year-old man, shot in his abdomen, who were also members of the group, remained hospitalized Tuesday. Police have not released the names of those injured.
Vainuku said the RV the rap group was traveling in “bore markings that demonstrated affiliation with a gang” and investigators believe the shooting may have been gang-related.
Anyone with information about the vehicle or individuals who may have been inside the vehicle at the time should call police at 801-840-8400. Tips can be made anonymously.
