NEPHI — Six people were injured in a Juab County rollover crash that started with a road rage incident, officials said.

The crash, which took place at about 3:15 p.m. Friday, briefly closed southbound I-15 about ten miles south of Nephi.

A Chevy Suburban with six passengers was driving south near I-15 mile marker 213, Utah Highway Patrol officials reported on the agency’s website.

At some point, a driver in a car in front of the Suburban brake-checked the car, and the driver of the Suburban swerved to the right to avoid crashing into the other vehicle, UHP said.

The Suburban driver lost control and swerved back to the left. When the car got to the highway median, the driver overcorrected again, and the car rolled four times, UHP said. It stopped right-side up in the middle of the highway, UHP said.

All six people in the Suburban were injured, and two had critical injuries. One was flown and one was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Provo. The other four people in the Suburban had minor injuries, and all except one passenger of the Suburban was wearing a seatbelt.

Officials are still looking for the driver of the other car involved in the crash, who stopped initially but then drove off. The vehicle is described as a larger black Suburban or truck with a Utah license plate. The plate might contain the numbers 7X0, UHP officials said.

The driver of that car is described as a white adult man with a beard. Anyone who was in the area at the time and may have information about the driver of the second vehicle is asked to call Richfield City Dispatch at 435-896-6471.

The crash closed lanes on I-15 for about 90 minutes on Friday. Officials did not release any identifying information about the people in the Suburban.
