SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested after police say he threatened a front desk employee of a motel with a gun Thursday night.

Darren Tracey Fayson, 53, of Salt Lake City, was arrested and booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, interfering with an arresting officer and possessing a controlled substance.

Police responded to a report of an assault at the Gateway Inn, located 819 W. Temple, shortly before 11:30 p.m., according to Salt Lake police detective Matt Roper.

Fayson got into an argument with the employee while at the motel and Fayson was told to leave, according to a jail report. The man left but then returned to the motel.

“In the course of the argument (Fayson) told the victim he would shoot him. (Fayson) left and when he returned, he pointed a black handgun at the victim,” the report stated.

When officers arrived, the man refused to comply and “actively resisted” being arrested, Roper said. He was later safely taken into custody when more officers arrived. Drugs were recovered on Fayson while he was being searched after the arrest, according to the jail report.

Court records show Fayson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault in 2016.
