DALLAS — Kyle Collinsworth has found an NBA home.
The former BYU player has signed a three-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks, according to multiple reports, though only the first year is guaranteed. Yahoo's Shams Charania was first with the news.
Collinsworth had impressed the Mavericks with his versatility and defensive ability in two 10-day contract stints with the team, along with the two-way contract he had signed earlier this season. The deal will allow the team to keep him through 2019-20 if they so choose, though they can cut Collinsworth at any time without penalty after June of this year.
"I like Collinsworth," Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle told the Dallas Morning News. "He brings a different dimension to our team. He's got size. He's more athletic than you might think. As a defender, he gave us ball pressure, rebounding and a physical presence. Offensively, he's a three-position player.
Carlisle added that Collinsworth could also fill some minutes in Devin Harris’ absence, who was traded to Denver earlier in the day. Carlisle said, “We need those minutes and a guy who can do those kinds of things.”
Collinsworth has averaged 2.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 11 minutes per game in his short time with the Mavericks. While Collinsworth isn't much of a shooter in the league, his overall talents shined with the Texas Legends, the Mavericks' G-League affiliate.
Clearly, Collinsworth is excited by the new deal:
