(AP) -- Yura Movsisyan scored in the 90th minute to lift Real Salt Lake to a 1-1 tie with the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night, earning a Western Conference playoff berth. Conor Casey gave the Rapids a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, scoring his 11th goal of the season.
Salt Lake (10-10-10) earned its first postseason berth and will host Chivas USA in the playoff opener on Nov. 1.
Colorado (11-14-5) was eliminated from postseason contention and will miss the playoffs in consecutive years for the first time.
"I couldn't believe it; I thought we played poorly tonight", Jason Kreis said after the win. "To be completely honest, I thought that it was our worst game of the season. But just to see the way the guys stuck with it. I just kept telling myself on the bench that it was going to come, it was going to come, but I don't know that all of me really believed that."
After three years of losing some members of the team were overcome with emotion as the walked off the field with the Rocky Mountain Cup and a playoff berth.
"I saw Jason [Kreis] with water in his eyes and it made me start crying too," said Andy Williams. "We kind of hugged after the game. But we have been here since the beginning and I can't explain it. It meant so much to us and I'm happy that we finally made it. I thought last week was amazing, but this win tops it. It means a lot to us, but most of all to the fans. It's been four years of hardship. But it's not over; we will celebrate tonight, head back home tomorrow and prepare for Chivas next week."
