KEARNS — Kevin Bell met his wife, Becky, online four years ago.
He was living in Tennessee and visited her in North Carolina. A few weeks later, she moved to Tennessee to be with him. They married and about two years ago, moved to Kearns.
“She was amazing — there’s no other way to describe her,” he said, recalling Becky. “She was my perfect match.”
Becky also adopted Kevin’s two daughters from a previous marriage.
“She loved being a mom. That was the highlight of her life,” he added.
She told Bell she knew she was a mom when she met his daughters, but knew it was permanent when the adoption was finalized.
Unified police said Becky Bell, 37, was killed when she was struck by a school bus at 5240 W. 5400 South Thursday morning. Police said Bell was attempting to cross the street when she was hit by the bus.
Kevin remembers dropping Becky at a street corner Thursday morning, where she would take public transit to her accounting job in downtown Salt Lake. As he headed home a few minutes later, he heard sirens.
“I immediately knew something was wrong and I texted her, ‘Baby please answer me.' No response,” he said.
He rushed back to the corner and found out she had died. But in the wake of her death, Kevin didn’t feel anger toward the driver; rather, he reached out to Granite School District to see if the driver was OK.
“I didn’t blame him,” he said. “I didn’t want him to feel like I was mad at him or my family would hold him responsible. … It was a tragic accident.”
“My heart breaks for (him) because that’s got to be so hard for him.”

Granite School District officials posted on Facebook Saturday that they had been in contact with Kevin Bell and the Bell family.
“During these difficult circumstances, they have demonstrated an incredible amount of love and kindness,” the district said in the statement.
A funeral service is planned for Wednesday morning at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 5380 W. 5400 South, the school district added.
