AMERICAN FORK — A shooting in the parking lot of a Taco Bell restaurant that critically injured a man Monday evening began as a robbery plan, according to American Fork police.

Two male juveniles met up with the man and a female at 633 S. 500 East for the purpose of robbing them, American Fork Police stated in a news release. A fight broke out and one of the juveniles shot the man multiple times then ran from the scene.

The juvenile believed a witness inside a vehicle was following him, so he fired multiple shots and hit the car. The witness was not reported to be injured.

Police then arrived and arrested the juvenile.

The man who was shot remains in critical condition but is expected to survive. The female had minor injuries and was treated and released on scene, according to police.

Both juveniles were booked into detention for investigation of multiple things, including attempted aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, felony discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, and multiple drugs charges, police said.

They encourage anyone who may have witnessed the incident and have not had contact with police to contact the American Fork Police Department through Utah Valley Dispatch at 801-794-3970.
