SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah State Board of Regents has named a 24-member committee to conduct a national search for the next president of Utah Valley University.

The next president will succeed Matthew Holland, who has been called to serve as a mission president for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He plans to serve as university president through early June 2018.

The committee will be co-chaired by regent Steven J. Lund and Elaine Dalton, chairwoman of the UVU board of trustees. It includes other regents and trustees, as well as university faculty, staff, students, administration, alumni and community members.

“Utah Valley University has been a leader in the dual-mission approach to higher education and exemplifies this approach in the success of its students," Daniel Campbell, chairman of the board of regents, said in a statement. "We recognize the importance of UVU to the surrounding communities and to the state as a whole, and we took the utmost care in selecting this committee to ensure each member has a strong connection to UVU and is dedicated to making sure the university’s future is bright.”

The search committee will conduct two public meetings on Nov. 28 to obtain input from members of the university community and other stakeholders. Both meetings will be conducted in the Science Building Auditorium, Room 134, at UVU, 800 W. University Parkway. The meetings will run from 3-4 p.m. and 6-7 p.m.

Based on feedback, the search committee will approve a position announcement and call for nominations and applications.

The search committee will then screen applications for the position and conduct interviews with candidates. After deliberating, the committee will recommend three to five finalists to the board of regents. The regents have the sole authority to hire, evaluate and terminate presidents of state colleges and universities.
