SPRINGVILLE, Utah (AP) -- A woman backing out of the driveway struck and killed her 14-month-old daughter who had dashed behind the vehicle, police said.
"The mom had no idea," Springville police Lt. Dave Caron said.
Charges likely won't be filed against the mother, whose identity was not released. The girl was taken to a hospital where she died.
There have been at least two other similar accidents in Utah County this year.
In May, a 21-month-old girl from Eagle Mountain was killed after a family member hit her while backing out of a driveway. On April 6, a 2-year-old Lindon boy was killed when his mother pulled into the driveway with a sport-utility vehicle.
"They are so hard and so tragic," Caron said. "You just have to be so careful. Little children that age just don't understand."
