SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Hogle Zoo officials are hopeful that voters will be willing to support a $33 million bond for Salt Lake City's animal park.
And just in case, the zoo is campaigning hard before the election Nov. 4.
The Utah Zoological Association spent more than $180,000 to get the bond issue on the ballot.
Supporters say it would cost the average Salt Lake County homeowner 39 cents a month. The bond would provide $33 million over 20 years for the 77-year old zoo at the mouth of Emigration Canyon.
A spokesman for the Utah Taxpayers Association says with the slumping economy, it probably isn't the right time to ask voters for more public money.
