OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley University men's and women's basketball teams held a "Meet the Team" event Saturday that included a free kids clinic and media day.

Members of the community and the media came out to watch both teams scrimmage and hear from head men's coach Dick Hunsaker and head women's coach Cathy Nixon.

"The free clinic is something we've wanted to do for a long time, and I think the turnout was great," Nixon said. "The kids had a great time and our players really enjoy working with youth. It's also great for our fans to get a chance to see the team for the first time. With practice beginning yesterday everyone's really excited to begin a new season."

Players and coaches from both teams then offered an hour of instruction to the kids in attendance. The players and coaches conducted offensive and defensive drills, then spent time taking pictures and signing autographs.

Both the men's and women's seasons open with exhibition games at home Nov. 6. The women will host Forth Lewis at 4:30 p.m., and the men will follow against Mesa State at 7 p.m.
