MILLCREEK — A man suspected in a home burglary and a car theft was taken into custody after falling off a wall he was trying to scale as he fled early Wednesday morning, police said.
Kent Gaisford, 38, was arrested and transported to a hospital after severely injuring his arm in the fall off a 25-foot wall, Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke said.
Police had responded to a report of a home burglary at 3212 Orchard St. shortly after 1:40 a.m. Lohrke said the homeowners woke up after hearing noises in their basement and when they went to investigate the noise, they found a man, who was later identified as Gaisford, stealing items.
Gaisford then threatened the homeowners with a rifle before fleeing the home, Lohrke said.
As responding officers searched for Gaisford, Lohrke said, police received a report of a stolen car in the area. That vehicle was soon found damaged and unoccupied at a Home Depot parking lot not far from the home that was broken into.
Gaisford then fled the vehicle and tried to scale a wall when he fell. Officers took Gaisford into custody, Lohrke said, and he will be booked into Salt Lake County Jail once he is released from the hospital.
