SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Salt Lake infielder Howie Kendrick was named Pacific Coast League rookie of the year Tuesday despite playing much of the season with the parent-club Los Angeles Angels.
Kendrick, who was recalled by the Angels in July two days after starting in the Triple-A all-star game, hit .369 with 13 home runs and 62 RBI in 69 games with the Bees this season.
"He's a special player," Salt Lake manager Brian Harper said. "Hitting success isn't achieved by accident. It takes hard work, and he's a very committed young man."
