MIDVALE — Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that took place in Midvale on Saturday night.

West Valley City resident Jordan B. Moulton, 21, was found dead at about 8:20 p.m. Saturday when police arrived to the scene of a shooting near Monroe Street and Columbia Drive in Midvale, according to Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

Moulton had a single gunshot wound. Witnesses in the area heard shots fired around that time, but no one saw the gun go off, Lohrke said.

Neighbors in the area also heard a car leaving the scene, but it is not known if the car is connected to the event, Lohrke said.

"We are working with very limited information right now, and we are asking for the public’s help in solving this crime," Lohrke said.

Police found a gun under Moulton's body and initially thought his gunshot wound was self-inflicted, Lohrke said. Detectives later determined the shooting was a homicide.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Unified Police detectives at 801-743-7000. Callers may remain anonymous.
