SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A man who admitted to transporting illegal immigrants into the country has been sentenced.

A judge ordered Heron Plaza-Gallegos -- a Mexican citizen -- to serve 15 months in prison. After serving his prison term, Plaza-Gallegos will be deported back to Mexico.

Back in April, troopers say they pulled over Plaza-Gallegos after spotting his van had a burned-out headlight. Inside the van, officers discovered 17 Latinos.

Authorities say each of the undocumented workers had allegedly paid up to 5500 dollars to be smuggled into the United States.
