EAST MILLCREEK — A man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a standoff with police Monday after officers responded to a report of an assault at the residence Monday morning, police said.

Unified police responded to a report of an assault at a home located at 3368 Crestwood Drive after a woman escaped and called police, authorities said. The woman told police her 58-year-old husband had also threatened to kill her.

Officers responded to the home and the man threatened to injure himself or others, which led to a SWAT team to be called out to the scene. The length standoff lasted for several hours before the man shot himself just before noon.

The man's name was not immediately released.

Police blocked off the area during the standoff but all roads have since reopened.

More information will be added as soon as it is made available.
