Twenty-five years ago this week, a man made the first commercial cell phone call in the world on a phone more appropriately described as a brick. All these years later, cell phones are going through a big change.
Nielsen Mobile says more cell users now are sending text messages rather than calling, as of the last quarter of 2007.
"It depends on if I have a boyfriend or not," said one cell phone user. "If I have a boyfriend, I text a lot. If not, I use it for regular calls."
I asked one man how he would feel if I took away his cell phone. "I'd probably be happier. Too many people bug me with it," he said.
The survey also finds that teens average about 1,700 text messages a month compared to about 200 cell calls.
