SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah prosecutors have charged a man accused of accidentally sparking a massive wildfire that forced some 1,500 people from their homes last month and cost about $34 million to fight. Iron County prosecutor Scott Garrett told The Associated Press that his office charged Robert Ray Lyman with two misdemeanors Tuesday. Authorities have said the fire started when a man set a pile of weeds on fire and it raged out of control.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A new report shows Utah women are choosing home birth at a rate double the national average. The Utah women choosing it tend to be older and have more education than mothers who give birth at hospitals. The Utah Department of Health report says 2.12 percent of Utah moms chose home birth in 2013. The U.S. national rate was to less than 1 percent.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is planning to headline a campaign rally to support a former Utah state legislator who is vying to replace Jason Chaffetz in Congress. Cruz will appear alongside Chris Herrod at a rally Saturday in Lehi. Herrod will compete in the Aug. 15 primary against John Curtis, the popular mayor of Provo, and Tanner Ainge, a consulting firm owner and son of Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge. The winner will face Democratic physician Kathie Allen in November.

JENSEN, Utah (AP) — A wildfire has sparked in Dinosaur National Monument after lightning struck a tree in windy and dry conditions. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Dinosaur National Monument spokesman Dan Johnson says the most active area of the fire is on the north side of the monument and is burning in a steep canyon full of timber.
