BLAZE DANCER RANDI C. ENJOYING CAREER IN LAW ENFORCEMENTSALT LAKE CITY - Randi C. has a deep love for dancing, while at the same time she has a desire to help people, and she has found a way to do both. She craves her appetite for dance as a member of the Intermountain Harley-Davidson Utah Blaze Dance Team, and she fills the need to help people as an officer for Adult Probation and Parole. Some of the people with whom she works at AP&P have a hard time believing she's a dancer, while members of the dance team find it interesting she works in law enforcement. “I'm the talk of the town (at both places),” she said. “On the dance side they have a hard time believing (I work in law enforcement) because I'm really girly and dress up and wear a lot of make-up.” Randi has been dancing since the age of four and has been a member of many dance teams along the way, including her high school team at Copper Hills and the Crimson Line at the University of Utah. She has also danced in the American Basketball Association, National Indoor Football League and was a dancer in the closing ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City. She also does back-up dancing for Big Fedi Records - a recording company in Salt Lake. During her senior year at the University of Utah, while studying for a degree in Family Studies and Human Development, she did an internship with AP&P, which caught her interest in law enforcement. “I was going to go for the Department of Child and Family Services, but I thought it would be too sad,” she said. Shortly after graduation from the U. in 2004 she entered the police academy, and since she has worked in AP&P and as a guard at the Utah State Prison as well as several other assignments along the way. She is now entering her fifth year in law enforcement where she has dealt with people who have committed nearly every imaginable crime. In her three years with the Blaze Randi has represented the Blaze at ArenaBowl XX in Las Vegas, Talladega Superspeedway (twice), and has been a captain of the Utah Blaze Dancers. In law enforcement she has success stories to tell as well. “I enjoy helping people,” she said. “To cure somebody's drug addition is a huge deal.” Randi is the only three-year member of the dance team and is hoping to make it four. Open tryouts for the team are Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel located at 150 West 500 South from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $15. Registration is at 10 a.m. Dancers can register at www.utahblaze.com. -BLAZE- ABOUT THE UTAH BLAZE The Utah Blaze were recipients of the Best Support Staff Award for the 2006 and 2007 seasons as recognized by the Arena Football League.
