HAVASUPAI, Ariz. (AP) — Coconino County Sheriff's officials say a Utah man has died after collapsing during a hike in northern Arizona.
Sheriff's officials say deputies responded to the Havasu Canyon Trail near Hilltop in Havasupai on Saturday afternoon after getting a call about a downed hiker.
Authorities said Michael Sproul, 32, of Provo, Utah, was hiking out of the canyon with several others when he collapsed.
The other hikers were able to put the victim on a horse and get him to the Hilltop area, where CPR was performed by bystanders until paramedics arrived.
But authorities say Sproul couldn't be revived.
The body was transported to Flagstaff and the county medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
A YouCaring page* has been set up raise the money needed to cover "medical expenses related to recovering (Sproul's) body from the trail ... as well as other costs associated with his passing."
