FARMINGTON — A man is dead after he drowned in Farmington Pond Tuesday night, police said.
Davis County Sheriff Todd Richardson said a 23-year-old man was rope swinging at Farmington Pond, 750 N. 75 West.
His friends said he was swimming back across the pond when he started to have trouble and went under water.
Dive crews found his body just before midnight. Officials said they tried to revive him but he died on scene. His name has not yet been released.
Richardson warned people that water is extremely cold this time of year, even though it's 100 degrees outside.
"That's what is so deceiving about these ponds right now," he said. "Again, the top can be warm, and you go down just a little ways and you're back into that liquid ice again. And it's shocking to the system."
Richardson called it a seasonal accident and said no drugs or alcohol were involved.
