SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- What was once a joke among mayors in five southern Davis County cities is now getting more serious attention.
The city leaders are talking -- just casually for the moment -- about making one city out of Bountiful, Centerville, West Bountiful, Woods Cross and North Salt Lake.
The five communities have already teamed up for the South Davis Recreation Center and South Davis Metro Fire Agency, both of which are based in Bountiful.
Those partnerships have already yielded budget savings.
Woods Cross Mayor Kent Parry and Centerville Mayor Ronald Russell have talked about commissioning a study to examine the pros and cons of forming one city out of the five communities.
A merger of the five would create a city among Utah's 10 most populous.
However the mayor of North Salt Lake today said the idea was only a joke taken out of context.
