HYDE PARK, Cache County — A Smithfield man died in a head-on collision on U.S. Route 91 Thursday morning.
According to a news release from the North Park Police Department, Curtis F. Nilson, 61, was driving north near 4000 North in Hyde Park just before 9 a.m. when his Chevrolet Cobalt drifted across the median and struck a southbound pickup truck. Nilson was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the truck, Kendall J. Eliason, 40, of Smithfield, had to be extricated from his vehicle. Police report that he was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
