PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Fired Spanish Fork High School girls soccer coach Jeremy King, accused of using money from the team's booster account for his personal expenses, has pleaded guilty to reduced charges in a plea deal that included charges against his wife being dropped.
King, 26, pleaded guilty Monday to a class A misdemeanor charge of unlawful dealing with property by fiduciary.
King and his wife Brianne, 27, originally faced forgery and theft charges. Some of the charges were felonies.
Jeremy King set up a checking account for money collected from fundraising under the name of his assistant soccer coach and longtime friend Janalee Vidolin, prosecutor Randy Kennard said previously.
The money was for the players and the things they needed for soccer that the school couldn't afford.
Vidolin said several checks bounced, and when she went to the bank to get copies of the checks, she found that her name had been signed on checks she had not authorized.
Defense attorney Jere Reneer contended that Jeremy King had full discretion on how the money was used.
The money has been paid back.
