SALT LAKE CITY — As Easter Sunday nears, Christians across the world are preparing to commemorate the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

It's no different in Utah, where many sects of Christianity have been hosting events throughout Holy Week. That all culminates on Good Friday, which commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and Easter Sunday, which commemorates his rising from the tomb in which his body was placed.

Here are some of the special events happening during Easter weekend across Utah:

Cathedral of the Madeleine

(331 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City) - Friday: “Stations of the Cross” in English at 5:30 p.m. and “Passion of the Lord” at 7 p.m. in Spanish.

  • Saturday: Easter Vigil Mass at 9 p.m.
  • Sunday: Mass 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon. Spanish mass at 3 p.m.

Cathedral Church of St. Mark

(231 E. 100 South, Salt Lake City) - Saturday: 8 p.m. Easter vigil

Congregational United Church of Christ

(3350 Blvd., Ogden) - Sunday: 9 a.m. outdoor service at Beus Pond Park (1576 Country Hills Dr.) and 11 a.m. worship service at church, which will be followed by an Easter egg hunt, pie and fellowship.

Christ United Methodist Church

(2375 E. 3300 South, Salt Lake City) - Saturday: Easter egg and family brunch at 10 a.m.

  • Sunday: Worship in the chapel 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Easter Concert at Temple Square

(N. West Temple, Salt Lake City) - Friday and Saturday: 7:30 p.m. Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra concert at the Salt Lake Tabernacle.

The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd

(2374 Grant Ave., Ogden) - Saturday: Easter vigil at 8 p.m.

  • Sunday: Services at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. with a children’s egg hunt following the 10:30 service.

First Presbyterian Church of Logan

(178 W. Center St., Logan) - Friday: Service at St. John’s Episcopal Church beginning at 7 p.m.

  • Sunday: Easter sunrise service at 7124 W. Highway 30 in Petersboro. 9 a.m. service at sanctuary. Another service at sanctuary at 11 a.m.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

(8575 S. 700 East, Sandy) - Sunday: Worship services at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. with music and dance.

Holladay United Church of Christ

(2631 E. Murray Holladay Road) - Friday: 7:30 p.m. worship service with Taizé-style chants, music, candles and reading of the crucifixion.

  • Sunday: 7 a.m. sunrise service at the church’s garden with breakfast. Regular service at 10 a.m.

Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church

(624 Lennox St., Midvale) - Friday: Lord’s Passion in English at 5 p.m. at the Chapel; 7 p.m. in Spanish at Main Church. Procession of Santa Entierro at 8:30 p.m. in the Main Church.

  • Sunday: Bilingual Easter vigil at 9 a.m. followed by regular Mass schedule.

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church

(1070 S. Foothill Drive, Salt Lake City) - Sunday: Worship services at 8:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. with an Easter brunch in between (proceeds go to the church’s youth group).
