FORT WORTH, Texas — In a world where tensions run high and one tragedy follows another, a simple act of kindness is a welcome sight.
BYU grad and former Utahn Jamie Hubbard captured just such an act when she took her 3-year-old son T.J. to a McDonald’s in Fort Worth, Texas, and the pair ran into Fort Worth police officer Colter.
T.J. was admiring Colter’s motorcycle that the officer had parked outside. Though Colter said he couldn’t let T.J. ride it, he gave the young boy a sticker of a police badge to make it up to him.
According to Hubbard, though T.J. is quite shy, he asked his mom if he could go back to Colter, who was eating his food, and give him a hug. After doing so, he quickly ran back to his mom.
Jamie recorded the moment on her phone, and the Fort Worth Police Department shared the video on its Facebook page where it has garnered 15,000 likes and been shared nearly 20,000 times.
“We are extremely grateful for those that protect our freedom, whether it is overseas or in our local community,” Jamie told Fox 4 News later. “It is more important now than ever that our children learn that these officers are wives and husbands, moms and dads, and they are there to be their friend and to help keep them safe.”
