(KSL News) Police arrested two suspected car thieves thanks to a witness who was quick with a camera.

Last night the two caused a multiple-car crash near 7200 South and 650 West. Midvale police say the two crashed into a truck, causing it to crash into another vehicle.

As soon as the crash ended, the two suspects took off. When police arrived, they realized the car was stolen.

Sgt. Marcelo Rapela of the Midvale Police Department said, "There is occasion when persons that steal a car will sometimes drive reckless because obviously the car doesn't belong to them and they don't care too much about it. They will get involved in accidents, take off from the scene and have no repercussions for it."

That may have been the suspects' hope. But police say a witness nearby pulled out a video camera and taped them running away.

Five minutes later, and officer spotted the two walking down Main Street and, thanks to that video, was able to identify the suspects.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old. They say both have criminal histories.
