SALT LAKE CITY — One of the most popular soccer clubs worldwide is coming to Salt Lake City as part of a United States tour this summer.

Manchester United, which is estimated as the one of the most valuable sports organizations worldwide, will embark on a United States summer tour, playing five matches in five U.S. cities, including Salt Lake City. This will be the first time Manchester United has played in Utah.

The club will make stops in Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Santa Clara and Washington D.C., according to a press release, with a fifth location to be announced on a later date. The tour will be used to prepare the club for its 2017-18 Premier League campaign.

“Visiting North America will give the team the best possible preparation for the new season, using top-class training facilities and playing in some great stadiums,” United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward said in a statement. “We have witnessed first-hand the passion and support for the club in the U.S. in recent years, so naturally it is something that everybody is very much looking forward to this summer.”

The tour will last for two weeks, but exact dates, opponents and ticket details will be announced at a later date. The Salt Lake City game will be held sometime in July.

The upcoming tour will be the 16th time Manchester United has traveled to the U.S. The club first visited in 1950 as part of a close-season tour.
