ST. GEORGE — A day after being rescued in Arizona, an 87-year-old St. George man has died, according to a statement by family.

Leroy Waldo Fitzell’s vehicle became stranded in a remote area of Mohave County, Arizona last Tuesday, and he spent two days in the cold before being rescued and airlifted to a hospital.

While initially expected to recover, according to a statement by Fitzell’s son Matt Fitzell on Facebook, Fitzell passed away at 2:55pm on Friday.

> Dear friends, my dad Roy Fitzell passed away today at 2:55pm. He is no longer suffering and was surrounded by all of us... > > Posted by [Matt Fitzell](https://www.facebook.com/matt.fitzell) on [Friday, February 17, 2017](https://www.facebook.com/matt.fitzell/posts/10155106111661683)

St. George police declined to comment on Fitzell’s passing, but said to refer to the Facebook posting. Freeman Stevenson is a web producer at KSL.com
