WASHINGTON (AP) — New U.S. sanctions against Iran could be announced as early as Friday. That's according to U.S. officials. Earlier in the week the White House put Iran "on notice" after it test-fired a ballistic missile. The sanctions are expected to be imposed on up to two dozen Iranian individuals, companies and possibly government agencies.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) —Defense Secretary Jim Mattis is leaving no doubt with North Korea about the Trump administration's attitude. Mattis said Friday in Seoul that any use of nuclear weapons by the North on the U.S. or its allies would be met with what he called an "effective and overwhelming" response.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Perceived by Israel as being sympathetic to settlements, President Donald Trump is now warning that constructing new settlements "may not be helpful" to Middle East peace efforts." Previous administrations and the international community consider the settlements illegal. Trump vigorously criticized the Obama administration for not vetoing a United Nations Security Council measure condemning settlements.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Uber CEO Travis Kalanick has quit President Donald Trump's council of business leaders, according to an internal memo obtained by The Associated Press. Kalanick wrote to his employees that he'd spoken with Trump on Thursday and that joining the group was not meant to be an endorsement of the president or his agenda. Also skipping Friday's meeting will be Disney CEO Bob Iger (EYE'-gur), who will be attending a board meeting.
GENERAL TRIAS, Philippines (AP) — More than 40 hours after it started, a fire at a major Philippine factory complex in suburban Manila may be put out on Friday. Six workers at House Technology Industries have not been accounted for and at least 126 workers were injured. The factory makes pre-fabricated house parts for export to Japan.
