SALT LAKE CITY — All parents fear losing a child, and rightfully so.

On average, seven out of ten children will get lost at least once in their lives. With this high statistic, it’s only fitting for parents to come up with a safety plan in case their children wander off or get lost.

Emergency communication plans are great, but there are other ways to help keep track of your children, too. With the advance of technology, wearable location devices are a great solution for kids who aren’t old enough to have a cellphone. Safety wearables now come in a variety of convenient designs, and include a plethora of features.

If you’re still not sure about how useful a GPS tracker for your kid could be, here are five instances when wearable safety devices are practical.

Walking to School

Parents list safety concerns as one of the biggest reasons they don’t let their children walk or bike to school, but wearable safety devices can help alleviate some of those fears. Parents can track their children’s routes to school from a smartphone and ensure safe arrival.

Some wearable safety devices will notify you if your child deviates from course, or if they’re late arriving or departing a location. These little GPS trackers give parents peace of mind while allowing children to socialize, unite with the community, and get exercise on a daily basis.

Visiting Amusement Parks

Amusement parks are a whirlwind of fun and adventure, but they can be chaotic and stressful for parents trying to keep track of young kids. Because theme parks are filled with crowds of people and exciting stimuli, it’s easy for little ones to wander off and get lost.

When planning a trip to Disneyland or any other theme park, consider outfitting your kids with a GPS tracker. Some trackers, like the FiLIP 2, allow for two-way calling and can send alerts with your child’s location. You can also set designated safe zones that provide alerts if your child strays too far.

Traveling Long Distances

Traveling is a great family activity, but it’s also a prime time for kids to get lost, as they can get overwhelmed by being in a foreign place surrounded by strangers. Before traveling, talk to your kids and create a safety plan.

In addition to this plan, find a reliable GPS tracker. That way, whether you’re headed out in a car or on a plane, the wearable safety device can give you real-time information about the location of your child. And, should your child get separated from you, you can easily find them again.

Going to Supermarkets

Supermarkets are almost as exciting as theme parks for kids. They have everything from candy and treats to toys and games, all tempting kids to slip away when their parents aren’t looking.

When taking your child out with you on errands, strap a GPS tracker on their wrist or attach it to their clothing. Should your child wander off, you can just pull out your cellphone and find their exact location.

Watching Children with Disabilities

If you are the parent of a child with a disability, you understand the safety concerns involved in monitoring your son or daughter. A tracking device is one of the best ways to ensure your child stays safe.

The AngelSense GPS tracker, for example, tells you exactly where your child is at all times so you can immediately pinpoint their location if they get lost. AngelSense is uniquely made just for children with special needs, and it features a “listen in” option so you can hear what is happening wherever your child goes. It also takes into consideration sensory issues and magnetically attaches to a child’s clothes.

No matter the occasion, GPS trackers for kids give parents added comfort in knowing that their children are safe. Wearable safety devices can connect to your smartphone or tablet and allow you to listen in, watch, and keep tabs on your child at all times.
