Gene Kennedy Reporting Police put in lots of manpower and hours of waiting, but come up empty-handed.
They had been looking for a gang member who they thought was armed. Last night, SWAT surrounded his apartment in Salt Lake City.
A lot of resources were spent on this and it didn't end how police had hoped, but investigators remind us this can happen.
In this case, police were certain their suspect was inside his apartment because they heard him moving around. And since they thought he was armed, they took no chances and evacuated five neighboring apartments.
When 24-year-old Anthony Shropshire didn't answer the front door or pick up the phone, SWAT sent in a robot. To their surprise, no one was inside the apartment.
Det. Robyn Snyder, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "Going inside and him not being there is a little bit of a disappointment. But still everybody's safe and we can always go and find him another time."
And police hope they can find him.
Shropshire is wanted on two outstanding felony warrants for aggravated burglary and aggravated assault with a gun.
Police say he also has a violent criminal history. He's been charged with assault and weapon violations, drug posession and kidnapping.
Gang detectives are confident they will find him. They quite familiar with the suspect, his friends and his hang outs.
Police think Shropshire is driving a maroon Cadillac, possibly a 1990 model with a partial plate. The first three numbers are "012".
If you see that car, call police. Don't approach the suspect, he could be armed.
