NOVE MESTO, Czech Republic (AP) — Tatiana Akimova won a women's 7.5-kilometer biathlon World Cup sprint Friday in a race dominated by underdogs.

The Russian was perfect shooting and won in 21 minutes, 58.9 seconds for her maiden World Cup victory.

Anais Chevalier of France finished second after flawless shooting, 4.3 seconds behind for her first World Cup podium. Susan Dunklee of the United States was third and overall leader Laura Dahlmeier of Germany missed two targets and finished fourth.

Dahlmeier leads the standings with 320 points, followed by Kaisa Makarainen of Finland with 248.

With her victory, Akimova jumped from 26th to 11th.

Men's and women's pursuit races are scheduled for Saturday, with mass start races on Sunday.
