THE GREAT OUTDOORS — Christmas is less than two weeks away — which might as well be tomorrow if you’re like many of the Utah outdoor enthusiasts who would much rather spend any extra time playing in the snow than going shopping. While you may be hoping that the gas station at the base of the canyon on your way back from skiing with Santa on Christmas Eve will carry the perfect gift for your special someone, we know you’re cooler than that.
Why not buy the outdoor enthusiast in your life something from a local business? After all, nothing says, “I think you’re awesome” more than something that originated in the state he or she calls home.
Here are six last-minute Christmas finds that you can get from some of Utah’s outdoor businesses.
“Utah” sweatshirt from Indy Brand Clothing
If you want to remind your fellow Utah outdoor-lover of the adventures you’ve taken together, we suggest buying a “Utah” sweatshirt from Indy Brand Clothing.
This one of a kind sweatshirt literally has Utah written all over it, both in word and graphics with the state’s own Delicate Arch front and center.
Moccasins from Unshoes
Nothing says, “I care about you” more than something you've made with your own hands — except when that “something” is a pair of socks you knitted that would only fit a Sasquatch.
If you really want to give something handmade to your loved one, look no further than the expert (un)shoemakers at Cedar City based company, Unshoes.
This company has recently added moccasins to its line of minimal footwear that you can order online. In just a matter of days, you will have a pair of moccasins handmade of high performance materials that will be shipped to your home, or if you're local to Cedar City, ready for pick up.
Mind over Mountain Hat
If your loved one isn’t quite up to joining you on your Utah mountain adventures and just needs a little more of a nudge, perhaps consider getting a Mind over Mountain Hat.
By strategically placing this hat in your loved one’s arms — to be eventually placed on his or her head, it may just send the message that all it takes is mind over mountain.
Soon, the two of you may just be bagging peaks and taking names with the best of them.
Wasatch Bottoms from Skre
If you’re like many Utah widows — in this instance, read: wives of hunters — and are concerned that the camo hat, shirt, coat, pants and boots isn’t enough to blend your hubby in with the shrubs, consider buying some Wasatch Bottoms from Skre.
Not only will this base layer keep his buns nice and toasty, but there is no way he’ll be spotted, even if his pants do get wet in a storm.
Meal Bar by PROBAR
If you’ve already gotten your loved one the perfect gift, give yourself a pat on the back. Don’t get too confident, however, because there is such a thing as a stocking that really must be stuffed.
That’s where the Meal Bar by PROBAR comes in. Not only will you be able to pack a few of these babies in a stocking, but each is jammed full of fruits, nuts and seeds, giving you enough calories for an entire meal while out exploring.
The ultimate gag gift by Honey Bucket
What do you get for the person who has everything? Well, the ultimate gag gift by Honey Bucket, of course! What outdoor enthusiast doesn’t need a portable bathroom from time to time? According to Utah ultrarunner, Jeffrey Davis, it's necessary.
“You’re at a race or outdoor adventure. What would you rather face, especially with a bunch of other people around: turning your back or hiding behind a tree, or having your privacy in a clean, hygienic portable bathroom? Even the Honey Bucket itself names its portable restrooms as “the gift that keeps on giving,” stating on its blog that “portable restrooms provide you with a convenient solution that take up little space, can be placed almost anywhere and works with any budget.”
