NEW YORK (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump is apparently close to nominating Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson as his secretary of state. According to people who have spoken with Trump and his transition team, Trump has not yet formally offered him the job. Trump and Tillerson met privately in New York today. It was their second meeting in a week. The president-elect's transition team says an announcement is not expected over the weekend.

ISTANBUL (AP) — Officials in Turkey say 29 people have been killed and 166 others wounded in two explosions after a soccer match in Istanbul. The blasts occurred outside a major soccer stadium on Saturday night after fans had gone home. The twin bombings inflicted high casualties among police, killing 27 officers, as well as 2 civilians. In an address early Sunday, the interior minister said 10 people had been arrested in connection with the attacks.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The defense has rested in the Will Smith shooting death case and the judge has set closing arguments for Sunday. Cardell Hayes is on trial in New Orleans. He's charged with second-degree murder in Smith's April 9 death. Hayes told jurors today that he fired only after Smith grabbed a gun from his damaged SUV during a dispute following a traffic accident. Prosecutors say the evidence doesn't support that. The prosecution rested Friday.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Army has ended a 14-year run of frustration against Navy, carving out a long overdue 21-17 football victory today. The Black Knights' losing streak was the longest by either academy in a series that began in 1890. Army (7-5) now trails 60-50-7 in one of the nation's historic rivalries. President-elect and future commander-in- chief Donald Trump watched the game in Baltimore.

NEW YORK (AP) — Lamar Jackson is the first Louisville player to win the Heisman Trophy, beating out preseason favorite Deshaun Watson of Clemson despite some late-season struggles. The sensational sophomore quarterback leapt over a loaded field of Heisman Trophy contenders early in the season and by the time he slowed down nobody could catch him. The highest honor in college football was handed out Saturday night in New York.
