OREM — A fire that ripped through an automotive supply shop is now estimated to have caused $2.75 million in damage, the Orem Fire Department said Wednesday.
The Tuesday fire at 1418 W. 130 South essentially destroyed all the inventory inside Factory Motor Parts, which is the reason for the increased damage estimate, said Orem Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Peterson.
The inventory included mainly transmission parts, struts and batteries, Peterson said. He said the accidental fire was caused by a "chemical container failure that ignited some surrounding items."
The building was initially destabilized due to the fire, but will not need to be torn down, according to Peterson. One other business inside the building sustained minor smoke damage.
