WASHINGTON (AP) — Anthony Philyaw ran for a school-record 281 yards and two touchdowns to lead Howard to a 26-21 win over Delaware State in a season finale on Saturday.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Bison (2-9, 2-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who finish second from the bottom in the MEAC ahead of the winless Hornets (0-11, 0-8).
Philyaw, who came into the game 51 yards shy of the 1,000-yard mark for the season, capped a 97-yard drive with a 45-yard scoring run to give the Bison an early 7-0 lead. Howard led 20-14 at halftime.
Philyaw finished the season with 1,132 yards and nine TDs.
William Parker rushed for another 107 yards and two more scores for Howard in a game where both teams relied on the ground game due to wind gusts.
Mike Waters ran for 224 yards and two touchdowns for the Hornets.
