WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump is scheduling a last-minute stop in Minnesota as he tries to make inroads into traditional Democratic strongholds. Trump is also expected to campaign in Pennsylvania and Michigan, two other traditionally Democratic states. Minnesota hasn't cast its electoral votes for a Republican since 1972. A Republican hasn't won Michigan or Pennsylvania since 1988.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — President Barack Obama is pushing back against Republican Sen. Pat Toomey's use of the Democrat's words in a campaign ad for his Senate race. Obama responded Saturday to a Toomey campaign TV ad that shows Obama speaking outside the White House in 2013 and thanking Toomey for his courage in backing a gun control bill, despite its failure. The ad is running in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
PHOENIX (AP) — The Supreme Court is reinstating an Arizona law that makes it a felony to collect early ballots, stepping into a contentious political issue days before the presidential election and dealing a blow to Democratic get-out-the-vote efforts. The unsigned order from the nation's highest court overturns an appeals court decision from a day earlier that blocked the new law and drew celebration from Democrats.
MOSUL, Iraq (AP) — Islamic State fighters are launching counterattacks against Iraqi special forces in eastern Mosul. They emerged from populated areas deep in the city on Saturday to target the troops with mortars and suicide car bombs in clashes that raged late into the night. IS militants pushed the special forces from the southern edge of a densely populated neighborhood. Dozens of civilians emerged from their homes, some carrying white flags.
WASHINGTON (AP) —A man with a firearm who was walking near the White House today is in custody. A uniformed Secret Service officer confronted the man as he walked along Pennsylvania Avenue near Madison Place, on the eastern side of Lafayette Park and was placed under arrest after a brief struggle. He was turned over to the local police department. The White House was briefly locked down as a precaution. President Barack Obama was not there.
