PAYSON — A Payson woman pleaded guilty Tuesday in connection with the auto-pedestrian crash that killed an 8-year-old boy earlier this year.
Tabatha Ann Magoon, 37, pleaded guilty in 4th District Court to operating a vehicle negligently, causing death, a third-degree felony, and possession or use of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor. She was originally charged with second-degree felony automobile homicide.
Magoon was driving under the influence of meth and other substances on March 20, charges say, when she struck 8-year-old Kaydon Sillitoe of Payson.
Kaydon was riding his skateboard at the time. He died later at Mountain View Hospital. The boy had celebrated his eighth birthday one day earlier, according to his family.
Magoon made a wide turn onto 1000 South, veering onto the wrong side of the road before hitting Kaydon, police said in March. She admitted to investigators she had smoked meth on the day of the crash.
Tests also showed oxycodone and other potent substances were in Magoon's system at the time.
Magoon is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 7. She posted bail in March and remained out of custody Tuesday, according to jail records.
Magoon also filed a motion in September for the reinstatement of her driving privileges. The motion was denied by 4th District Judge Fred Howard.
Kaydon's mother filed a wrongful death case against Magoon in March. It was dismissed in August because of a court filing that hadn't been made in time, court records show.
Magoon pleaded guilty in May to a theft case stemming from an incident on March 19, one day before the fatal crash. She was also charged Oct. 3 with criminal trespass, a class B misdemeanor, for an alleged incident at a Spanish Fork Wal-Mart in June. That case is ongoing.
Prior to 2016, Magoon's criminal history in Utah included only minor traffic offenses, court records show.
