COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (AP) -- Cottonwood Heights Police are on patrol.
The city's new police department officially took over law enforcement at 12 a.m. Monday. The community in the eastern foothills has been relying on the Salt Lake County Sheriff's office for law enforcement since 1849.
Police Chief Robby Russo says planning for the 34 officers on the force has been going on for several months. He says the department is ready to go to work.
Cottonwood Heights was incorporated in 2005.
