ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — One of three people facing charges after a man disappeared amid a custody battle is pleading not guilty.

The Spectrum newspaper of St. George reports that 55-year-old Francis McCard entered the pleas to aggravated kidnapping, burglary and car theft charges Tuesday.

Defense attorney Ariel Taylor says McCard could also face federal charges in the case.

McCard, his girlfriend and their landlord are accused in the mysterious June disappearance of 30-year-old David Heisler. Police say they found bloodstains in his home and a bullet casing in his abandoned car.

Heisler's body was found in the Arizona Strip area last month.

Authorities say Heisler had been awarded custody of a daughter he shared with McCard's girlfriend shortly before he went missing.

Prosecutors say Perry was upset and McCard told her he would fix it.
