SALT LAKE CITY — An accident early Thursday morning left one dead and closed southbound Redwood Road.
Police have identified the victim as Victor Manuel Arellano-Solis, 43.
The accident occurred around 6:45 a.m. near 1700 S. Redwood Road, according to Salt Lake City police. A white semitruck turned left in front of the oncoming black pickup truck that Arellano-Solis was driving, police said. The impact from the crash resulted in the back end up of the pickup coming to rest on top of the semitrailer and Arellano-Solis was killed in the collision.
The 50-year-old driver of the semitruck was transported to an area hospital with minor neck and back injuries. Neither driver had a passenger in their vehicle and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Police said they believe the accident was the result of the semitruck driver failing to yield to oncoming traffic and will likely result in charges.
