A SWAT standoff ended peacefully in Woods Cross after a man barricaded himself in a business and refused to leave.

At 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a landscaping business at 2536 S. 1250 West in Woods Cross because of shots fired. Officers say when they arrived, the suspect had two high-powered rifles.

Earlier in the evening, a woman had shown up to the business to speak with the suspect, who is an employee there. Police say she is a relative of the suspect.

At some point in the evening, the man began to threaten suicide in front of her, and when she left the building she heard two gun shots inside. She called 911, but a few moments later the man came out of the building.

When Woods Cross police arrived, the man ran back into the building and barricaded himself inside, refusing to come out.

Sgt. Ekolu Delos Santos, with the Woods Cross Police Department, said, "The suspect, we just wanted him to be OK and get the care that he needed, so we were lucky last night that everything went well."

Davis County Metro SWAT was called, and after phone negotiations with the man, he gave himself up peacefully.

Santos said, "They did a good job with that. We also got lucky, the reason being it's a nonpopulated area in a business district of Woods Cross."

The suspect was taken to Lake View Hospital. Police say he could face charges.
