(KSL News) Cottonwood Heights now has its own police department. Nearly 40 police officers were sworn in this evening, creating the department that takes over public safety duties in the city that had been contracting with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office.
The officers showed off their brand new uniforms, cars and other equipment to the public.
The new police chief says he's confident his officers will work with the community on a personal level. "The government that's closest to the community is actually the best government, and we can respond to the needs of the local community, we think, better and in a proactive way," Chief Robby Russo said.
It took just a few months to organize and equip the new police department from scratch.
