SALT LAKE CITY — Nearly half of Utahns think there will be another Clinton in the White House come January.
A new UtahPolicy.com poll shows 45 percent of likely Utah voters believe Democrat Hillary Clinton will beat Republican Donald Trump in the November election. Only 28 percent think Trump will win, while 7 percent say it will be another candidate and 19 percent don't know.
The number of Utahns who think Clinton will claim victory rose slightly since UtahPolicy asked the same question in June. The number of Utahns who say Trump is going to win dropped 3 percent.
Republicans and Democrats naturally disagree on the predicted outcome, though Democrats feel more strongly about Clinton winning than Republicans feel about Trump winning.
The poll shows 48 percent of Republicans picked Trump to win, while just 24 percent say it will be Clinton. Meantime, 90 percent of Democrats think Clinton will emerge victorious. No Democrats surveyed said Trump will win.
Independent voters also think Clinton will defeat Trump, with 51 percent choosing the former secretary of state and 19 percent picking the billionaire businessman.
Dan Jones & Associates polled 858 likely Utah voters from July 18 to Aug. 4. The survey has 3.3 percent margin of error.
Clinton surged to a big lead over Trump in the national polls after the Democratic National Convention.
In Utah, Trump has a 12-point lead over Clinton, according to the most recent UtahPolicy poll.
