SALT LAKE CITY — Two more men were charged with murder Tuesday in connection with the death of another man during an apparent "robbery gone bad."
Lucas Troy Neilson, 36, and Alfredo Lolani, 25, were each charged Tuesday in 3rd District Court with murder and aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies. Arrest warrants were issued for both men, with bail set at $1 million each.
Last week, police announced that Neilson and Lolani were both known gang members and should be considered armed and dangerous. They are wanted in connection with the shooting death of Mauricio Martinez, 31, whose body was found in the front passenger seat of an abandoned car in the parking lot of a Cottonwood Heights bank, 6440 S. 3000 East, on May 27. Investigators believe Martinez was killed in Salt Lake City and his body dumped in Cottonwood Heights.
Two other men, Jorge Arturo Castanon-Serrano, 35, and Marco Antonio Garcia, 25, were charged two weeks ago with murder and aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies, in connection with Martinez's death. The two men allegedly set up Martinez and another person to be robbed at gunpoint in an industrial area at 1032 S. Redwood Road, according to charging documents. Castanon-Serrano claimed they were going to take the victims' money and car, the charges state.
Several gunshots were heard by the other man in the car with Martinez, according to the charges. After he sped away from the shooting, he "stated he intended to go to a hospital, but realized Mr. Martinez was deceased" and left the vehicle and Martinez in the bank parking lot, according to charging documents filed Tuesday.
Garcia told investigators he was the one who drove Neilson and Lolani to the industrial area, describing them as the "two gunmen," the charges state.
