SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The University of Notre Dame is set to begin running a turbomachinery laboratory that officials hope will attract more aerospace research and jobs to the South Bend area.
Officials are scheduled to discuss the Notre Dame Turbomachinery Laboratory during a Tuesday news conference at the off-campus laboratory in South Bend's Ignition Park.
The lab that will focus its research on gas-turbine engines is expected to be fully operational in about a month.
The project is seen as a milestone in Notre Dame's growth as a research university and in the growth of South Bend's high-tech economy.
Laboratory Director Joshua Cameron tells the South Bend Tribune (http://bit.ly/1Y1zkgD ) that the lab's supporters hope it makes South Bend a hub for turbomachinery and aerospace research.
