UNDATED (AP) — (AP) — Torrential rains have moved out of Texas but they left behind swollen rivers that are overrunning some communities. Authorities say at least four people have died in the flooding and two are still missing. Officials in a number of cities and towns in the southeastern part of the state are calling for evacuations because of the rising Brazos River.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — No evacuations are being ordered in South Carolina but coastal residents are bracing for Tropical Storm Bonnie. The center of the storm is still well out to sea but Bonnie is spreading heavy rains along the coast. Strong winds are also expected. Forecasters say Bonnie is expected to move onshore south of Charleston sometime Sunday morning.
SANTA PAULA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say two people were killed Saturday afternoon in the fiery crash of a small plane in Southern California. The aircraft went down in an orchard in the agricultural Aliso Canyon area between the cities of Ventura and Santa Paula. There's no information yet about those who were aboard, the type of plane or its flight.
DALLAS (AP) — Authorities say Bryce Dejean-Jones of the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans was fatally shot early Saturday after breaking down the door to a Dallas apartment. The player's agent says his client was visiting his girlfriend and went out for a walk. When he returned he thought he'd been locked out. But it was the wrong apartment. The resident thought he was an intruder.
CINCINNATI (AP) — The director of the Cincinnati Zoo says a special zoo response team shot and killed a 17-year-old gorilla Saturday that grabbed and dragged a 4-year-old boy who fell into the gorilla exhibit moat. Authorities say the boy is expected to recover. Director Thane Maynard says the zoo's dangerous animal response team decided the boy was in "a life-threatening situation."
