WEST HAVEN, Weber County — Eight people were injured after a three-vehicle crash on Saturday.
The crash occurred at around 4:30 p.m. on 1900 West 2550 South in West Haven. Two trucks, a Dodge Ram and Ford F-350, were heading northbound on 1900 West when the Ford truck rear-ended the Dodge, causing the Ram truck to be pushed across the median and head-on into a southbound SUV, according to Weber County Sheriff Sgt. Mike Streker.
Six adults and two children were injured, with most suffering from head and neck injuries. One adult female in the SUV possibly sustained a broken hand and two broken knees.
Four adult males in the Dodge sustained varying head, neck and back injuries. One also had a severely fractured leg, the sergeant said.
The adult male driving the Ford complained of shoulder and back pain. Two children, ages 3 and 6, sustained bruises, cuts and scrapes. The 6-year-old was transferred to Primary Children's Hospital to be evaluated, Streker said.
The road was closed for around two and a half hours. Streker said officials are still investigating the incident and will have a traffic investigator complete an accident reconstruction to help determine the cause. Police are investigating speed and distraction as contributing factors in the crash.
Streker said seat belts were the reason no lives were lost in the crash.
“From what we can tell right now, everybody was in some sort of restraint device — seat belts — and that definitely saved people’s lives in this crash,” Streker said.
