PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Peoria Public Schools could be forced to cut all extracurricular activities, from sports to clubs, if state funding doesn't come through in the fall.
Comptroller Mike McKenzie told board members Monday that the school district will have to seriously consider whether to offer fall extracurricular activities if it doesn't get money from the state.
But even if the school district gets the funding, the (Peoria) Journal Star (http://bit.ly/1UQgd8J ) reports that it will still have to deal with possible cuts to programs, services and staff to reduce a $7.6 million deficit in its current operating budget.
Budget director Carla Eman detailed $2.4 million in potential cost-saving measures at the board meeting Monday.
The board plans to hold a public hearing next month on the amended 2016 budget.
